Phoenix Arizona has an array of public transportation options for those visiting the area. However, many guests prefer not to depend on public transportation and instead rent a car. Renting a car allows for visitors to see the city and area attractions at their pace. With that in mind, here are four tips to help with your car rental experience at Sky Harbor International Airport:
Make a Reservation
Sky Harbor International Airport is a very busy airport, and if you plan on renting a car make sure you have a reservation prior to arrival. Although there are 14 rental car companies located on site, there is a limited amount of car rentals available. If you don’t have a reservation, they may not have a car for you to rent during your stay.
Picking Up Rental Cars
Once you arrive and pick up your bags from baggage claim, head outside. The rental car shuttle pickup area is located just outside of the baggage claim. Shuttles come around to pick up guests every 10-15 minutes. They then transport you to the car rental center where visitors pickup and drop off their cars.
Cars are returned at the same location where you pick them up, 1805 East Sky Harbor Circle South. Plan on returning your rental car to the rental car center at least two hours prior to your departure. Sky Harbor is a busy airport, and it can take some time to get back to the terminal and get through the TSA security lines.
New Early Bag Check
A great new feature for Phoenix visitors flying on American Airlines, Southwest, and US Airways and who are renting a car from Sky Harbor is the Early Bag Check. When arriving at least 90 minutes prior to your flights departure time, you can take advantage of the early bag check located in the rental car center. Early bag check is a free service that guests utilize from the hours of 5:00 am to 6:00 pm, seven days a week. Look for the early bag check signs where an attendant will help you get your bag checked. If your service is good, be sure to tip your attendant.
